theteaisaddictivewhat luxury, i had four whole days off in a row from work! it even extended into the actual weekend, which is also a rarity for me. i didn't have a single full weekend off for the entirety of october (although i did some swaps that helped me get another saturday), and my only weekend off in december is hogmanay weekend. i'm only working one sunday in the whole of november, so i suppose i can't really complain about working the weekends the other two months - but that certainly won't stop me.
i had a grand old time with my days off, though. soup season is back upon us, so i dug out the copy of the covent garden soup recipe book that my mum gave me before going to uni. i did a repeat of a soup i made a few weeks ago, honey-glazed chantenay carrot. although i don't have chantenay carrots, so i just used normal tesco ones. still turned out well, and extremely carrot-y. i also spied a handy recipe for root vegetable soup, and butternut squash, orange, and ginger soup. once i can find the butternut squashes again, i'll be on that - i made several helpings of their butternut squash and sweet potato soup last year, and it was delightful every time.
i'm glad i decided to be sensible about nanowrimo this year, too. currently i'm at 2703, with my total goal being 10k. i know that i won't reach 10k, so my real goal is to average 100 words every day. that means i'd only write 3k for the whole month, though, which is a little too low a goal even for me. i've been having a grand old time with Roses and Lavender, especially as we're getting close to the characters all finally meeting each other. i don't think we'll see all four of them together until the end game, but we're mixing up who they've sharing scenes with very, very soon, and i can't wait for the new dynamics.
and as for the date . . . it went well, i think! it was my second-ever date with a man (the first date, with a different man, was - not disastrous, but certainly didn't go well), and i had a really nice time with him. he seems shy, bless him, but i would be lying if i said i wasn't also shy and awkward sometimes. sure, we had brief moments of awkward silence, but they were brief. i can't help feeling like i talked too much - it's a bad habit - but hopefully he didn't mind that too much. i'm hopeful for a second date.
anyway. it's getting chillier at night, now. i should get some dinner, and then start prepping my bag for work tomorrow. four more shifts and then i've got some well-earned annual leave!

i wanted to do nano this year, but i'm swamped. (i could probably tally my word count for my femslashex assignment just to feel like i'm participating, but nano is very "word sprint now, edit later" and the stage i'm at is very "pick at the exact phrasing of a paragraph for 45 minutes" so IDK.)
your fic looks really fun, and i'm excited to peek at it once the weekend's over.
congrats on the date! i have one tonight (with a girl i've been seeing for a few months, so nothing new on that front, but i will be meeting her mother for the first time before we go get dinner, so that's exciting).

Date: 2023-11-11 08:41 pm (UTC)yeah, i'm pretty much just 'doing' nano so i don't get stuck in a slump of 'don't write for three months and wonder why the fic isn't writing itself' like i usually do. it's my own fault for deciding to write two romances at the same time with roughly equal weighting, if anything i should have made one a primary romance and the other a secondary romance.
